The event offers a platform for exchanges

At the ongoing 133rd Canton Fair, foreign trade business insiders are seizing the opportunity to establish cooperation ties and learn experiences with their counterparts. Such interaction is bringing significance to the high-quality development of foreign trade.

 

“I’m excited to attend Canton Fair in person again!” a toy company manager said. However, due to multiple factors, many foreign customers, especially those from Europe and America, were unable to attend the fair in person.

 

“It’s a pity not being able to meet my old friends. After all, face-to-face communication can help us reach more cooperation.”

According to Wen Xin, head of sales at Beijing Shenglin Running Trade, some overseas buyers are not yet well aware of China’s recent policies and achievements in pandemic prevention and control.

 

“We hope that governments can increase their publicity efforts so that overseas buyers can step onto this land with more confidence.”

 

In recent years, China has been promoting export credit insurance to help businesses manage risks, expand markets and maintain orders. Such effort has received positive results and wide recognition from enterprises.

 

Data shows in 2022, the short-term insurance coverage of China Export and Credit Insurance hit $745.2 billion, an increase of 10.2 percent year-on-year. The company gave support to 180,000 businesses, up 12.6 percent year-on-year.

Shenglin Running is one of the many companies receiving the benefits. Wen said: “We are very grateful for the insurance services promoted by the country. It helped us overcome difficulties.”

 

But there are also some unexpected situations. “For example, if the sea transport time cannot be guaranteed, we need more operational capital, and we hope that the service plans can have a wider coverage.”

 

Wen said that in recent years, more foreign buyers have started to communicate with Chinese companies through WeChat, which is safe and convenient for business in their opinion. In this Canton Fair, some foreign buyers will add exhibitors they are interested in as WeChat friends but their accounts are sometimes restricted due to frequent addition of new friends.

 

Wen said that such social media should provide more convenience and better services for overseas buyers, so as to attract more of them to bring high-quality Chinese goods to the world.

According to officials from the Ministry of Commerce, China’s international flights have now resumed to nearly 30 percent of that before the pandemic. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant departments are encouraging some countries to provide more convenient visa policies.
